Amoxil is an antibiotic which belong to the group of drugs
called penicillins. It's used to treat a wide variety
of infections such as gonorrhea, middle ear infections,
skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections,
and infections of the genital and urinary tract. In combination
with other drugs such as Prevacid and Biaxin, it is also
used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria.
Dosage:

Take Amoxil exactly as directed by your doctor. If you are unable to understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you.
- It should be taken at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night to keep the level in the blood high enough to treat the infection.
- It can be taken with food or without food.
- Swallow each regular oral dose (non-chewable tablets and capsules) whole, with a full glass of water.
- Chew the chewable tablets thoroughly before swallowing.
- You are suppose to consume all the entire dose of medication that has been prescribed for you even if you begin to feel better. Your symptoms may start to improve before the infection is completely treated.
- Amoxil suspension and pediatric drops should be stored in a tightly closed bottle. Discard any unused medication after 14 days. Refrigeration is preferable.
Missed Dose:
In case of missed dose, take it as soon as
you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose,
take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
There should be an interval of at least 6 to 8 hours
between doses.
Over Dose:
Any medication taken more than the required amount can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately for safeguarding your health.
Adult Dosage:
Adult dosage is normally determined by the type of infection afflicted on the person. For ear, nose, throat, skin, genital, and urinary tract infections, the usual dosage is 250 milligrams, taken every 8 hours.
For treating infections of the lower respiratory tract, the usual recommended dosage is 500 milligrams, taken every 8 hours. For the treatment of Gonorrhea, the usual dosage is 3 grams in a single oral dose. Gonococcal infections such as acute, uncomplicated genital and urethral Infections can be treated by taking 3 grams of single oral dose.
For most infections in adults the dosing regimens for amoxil are 250 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 8 hours, 500 mg every 12 hours or 875 mg every 12 hours, depending on the type and severity of infection.
For the treatment of adults with gonorrhea the dose
is 3 g given as one dose. For most infections, children
older than 3 months but less than 40 kg are treated
with 25 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours, 20
mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours, 40 mg/kg/day
in divided doses every 8 hours or 45 mg/kg/day in divided
doses every 12 hours depending on type and severity
of the infection.
