All you desired to know about Diet Pills

Have you ever thought that carrying extra weight not only makes you look obese but also puts you at a risk for developing many serious diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer? Losing this weight helps to prevent and control such problems. Diet pills are the most convenient way to shed this extra weight. But what exactly are these diet pills.

Prescription diet pills are nothing but pills regulated by the Food and Drug Administration agency (FDA) to be prescribed for weight loss under certain conditions and in certain pill-dosages. The FDA monitors their side effects and usage. Examples of prescription diet pills include Meridia, Xenical, Adipex, Bontril, Didrex, Phentermine, phendimetrazine and Tenuate.

Principally diet pills are meant for people suffering from serious obesity, i.e. they have a body mass index of 35+. However, people taking these pills need to remember that diet and weight loss drugs are not intended to replace convention diet and weight loss programs. People should not turn to pills as an easy answer to their weight problems. Instead they should continue with their weight loss diet and work on improving their motivation to lose weight and exercise.

Infact, these prescription diet pills are effective only when used under medical supervision in conjunction with a proper diet and exercise program. The body adjusts remarkably quickly to many diet pills, and so the benefits also may quickly wear off.

The dangers of prescription diet pills are many. Accidental overdose is one of them. This is serious and should immediately be brought to the notice of a doctor.

If you are planning to take any type of diet or weight loss pills, remember these points and then go ahead:

  • Take diet pills exactly as prescribed.

  • Follow a proper diet and exercise program while taking the pills.
  • If side effects persist, check with your doctor.
  • Monitor how effective is the diet pill.
  • If you feel that the diet pills are not working, stop taking them!
