The more the waistline the more the wealth .The logic still holds good or else why would one in three Americans be categorized as obese. Among developed countries, the United States has the most obese and overweight people, representing 66 percent of its overall population .

The recent economic growth of the Asian countries has also given them the pride of place in the list of the most obese people, and it spares no gender. South Asian women have the highest incidence of abdominal obesity, regarded as a primary risk factor for diabetes; hypertension and heart disease .As per internationally accepted parameters of abdominal obesity, 55 % South Asian women were found to be obese as compared to 20 % men. Therefore it is imperative that obesity be treated more as a disease and reducing weight should not be just a fad. Although physical exercise and a regimented diet is in itself a good way to check weight increase, but to speed weight loss medication is necessary.

Drugs used for weight loss are called anorexiants. Obesity is a complex disorder, and the therapies and drugs (prescription, over-the-counter supplements, herbs, medicines, etc.) are to be taken only under the supervision of a qualified physician, and as part of an overall weight loss program that includes diet and exercise.

There are three main types of diet pills. First, in the most serious of circumstances doctors can prescribe diet pills like Meridia. These pills are highly regulated by the government agencies and should only be taken in consultation with a doctor. The second form of diet pills is over-the-counter (OTC). Phentermine is an OTC pharmaceutical. These medicines can be found in various stores and do not require a doctor's prescription.. The third and final form of diet pills are herbal supplements. These are natural pills designed to help you curb your appetite.
