If you have crossed the BMI level of 30 then beware, you
are a victim of Obesity. Obesity makes you lethargic,
inactive and familiarizes you to various painful diseases.
In simple terms, it makes your life miserable.
How does Obesity grow on you?
- Pregnant women think that they should start having
meals for two, herself and the baby when it is not
actually needed. Even after pregnancy she follows
the same diet which increases her weight and readies
her for Obesity
- For women who are nearing menopause, hormonal changes
bring about weight gain. Lack of proper exercise and
unhealthy diet can hurry Obesity
- Unhealthy eating habits are the main cause of Obesity
in men
- Excessive drinking signifies weight gain
- Children become couch potatoes at home. They also
spend a lot of time playing computer games or board
games. Lack of physical exercise
results in Obesity
- Children also eat a lot of fatty food, both at
home and in school
- Certain medications also make you fat
What's more painful, disability or death?
At a younger age, you might still struggle and carry
on with an unhealthy life. But once you get older your
resistance and energy levels stoop. In a worst situation,
you would lack the physical fitness to brush, serve
food or walk a distance. Obesity makes you dependent.
Imagine a dreadful life in isolation in your old age?
In 1993 about 13 percent of the population over age
70, was obese. Women are more likely to be obese. When
you cannot indulge in the day to day activities yourself,
life becomes increasingly monotonous as you have to
depend on somebody for any little thing you want to
do. Be it having food or taking a walk. This disability
can make your old age wretched.
What can we do as responsible individuals?
- Educate people. Create awareness. In certain nations
there are campaigns on issues like AIDS, STD's, literacy
etc. Let's ask for campaigns against Obesity.
- Children learn faster. So explain the difficulties
of being obese to children so that they will be careful
from childhood
- Encourage healthy eating at home and outside
- Walk or do any form of exercise, but be active
- Easy ways out to treat Obesity are Bariatric surgeries,
diet pills
or diet programs like Atkins. These treatments are
effective as long as you are determined to lose weight
and follow the guidelines for each treatment properly
- Above all, if you are obese it's obvious that your
lifestyle is unhealthy to the core. Change it. Immediately.
