Make Your Resolution Tick This New Year

Health is Wealth

We all await the arrival of a New Year, every year. It is a special occasion for giving and receiving gifts, spending time with your family and friends and more importantly for making resolutions. According to the GNC poll conducted in 2001, 55% of Americans have at least one resolution to follow. And a majority of these promises is related to health and fitness. The GNC 2001 polls revealed 55% Americans who decided to eat healthy, 50% who promised on working out more and a good 38% who wanted to lose weight.

If they kept their promises, America would have been a country of health conscious men and women today. But unfortunately, not many of us can keep a promise or follow a resolution till the end. We lose interest in the middle. We lack enough motivation. We don't have the urge to follow our dreams. Let's face it.
So, what's the secret to successful resolutions? Make use of some tips here and see what you can change about yourself this New Year.

Choose an obtainable goal

Don't try to achieve the impossible in the beginning itself. Instead, follow a slow and steady path to success. Know the amount of time you can devote to exercises in a week. Accordingly set your goal and see to it that it's reachable. Otherwise, you will lose interest midway.

Avoid an unsuccessful resolution, which you have been trying for years

You are bored of this old resolution. Let go of it and take a new one to come back with vigor and excitement. Let your failure, frustration and disappointment give way to lots of positive energy. So instead of stating that you are going to lose 25 pounds, decide that you will eat healthy and wise.

Make a game plan

Like a business plan you make before proceeding for any business conversations, prepare a game plan to work out your exercise routine. The result, you will be more focused in what you do.

Compartmentalize your Big Goal

A goal will look easier if we break it down into various sessions. If your aim is to lose 35 pounds a year, keep a goal of losing 5 pounds or more in less than two months. It looks easier and you will be more enthusiastic to reach the goal.

Give it time

A change in your routine, a change in your life style, a change in your exercise patterns, all this takes time to set in. Give yourselves a month to create a habit and six months to get adjusted to it.

Reward your self

Self-appreciation is important when you are aiming to achieve a difficult goal. So reward yourself with a good massage or a fat free treat after your first phase. It surely helps.

Family, friends and a trainer

For continuous motivation, there is family and friends. And if you are still finding it difficult, don't wait, but meet a trainer who will guide you into a successful training program.

Keep a Journal

When you write down all the positive changes in your life when following the resolution, you will hesitate to go back to the previous unhealthy habits in life. Keeping a journal assists you to keep track of your progress.

Studies show that only 20% of us keep up our new year promises. And some of the biggest let downs have been in the field of fitness. But it should not give you a reason to step back. Instead, step ahead and make your resolution tick this New Year.
