Marketing Tactics
Accelerate Childhood Obesity.
April 27, 2005
With the rise of Obesity epidemic,
the life expectancy of our children could very well
be lower of our own.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics,
there has been a 300 percent increase in the rate of
US children who are either overweight or obese, in the
past three decades. One of the crucial factors originating
as the reason for this rise is the Marketing Advertisements.
A recent Stanford study observed that children who
spend the most time watching TV, videos, & video games
are most likely to be overweight. The vulnerability
of this target group is extremely high, thus resulting
in the persuasion and brand preferences.
The media can provide essential functions in overweight
and obesity
prevention efforts. From a social marketing standpoint,
the media can disseminate health messages and display
healthy behaviors aimed at changing dietary habits and
exercise patterns.
