Obesity
Problem

People seem to be buying into it. Grabbing Aktins approved food and popping miracle pills like there's no tomorrow, but is any of this safe?
"There's a number of diets that are out. They're all centered around loosing weight, but you either omit one of the food groups or you over indulge in another. I'm not a big fan of those. I don't recommend them," said Carlos Galvan, a nutritionist.
Rather than getting rid of the bread, Galvan suggests simply spreading out your meals. Going from 2 or 3 big meals a day, to several smaller ones.
"For example, I gave you a 100 bucks to go to the mall. You could spend it all in one store or go to several stores and buy a little here and a little there. It's the same thing with food. You have x amount of calories throughout the day, but you also have different food groups. You can knock them all out in one meal, or you can spread them out throughout the day," said Galvan.
What about diet
pills? Remember the big Ephedra scare a few years
ago. Experts say the long term effects of these new
diet pills aren't known, and more than that, it's just
a quick fix.
"The diet pills are a quick, short term fix for a long term problem, and unless you change what you eat, your not going to get better for the long haul," said Dr. Rima Kittley, a family physician.
While different people may have different approaches to weight loss, experts usually agree on at least one thing.
"The more color that's on your plate, the better it is for you," said Galvan.
So most doctors agree...ditch the fad diets and miracle pills, and just do as Mama always said, "Eat your vegetables."
