Obesity linked Death is on a
Rise in Scotland
December 07, 2005
THE number of deaths linked to obesity has risen by
nearly 50% in a decade in Scotland.
Obesity was mentioned as a contributory cause in 139
deaths last year as compared to 95 in 1995.An expert
has also warned that obesity would claim even more lives
as the people of the country continue to indulge in
binge drinking, ignore warnings about obesity, had little
regard for diet, and fail to exercise adequately.
Obesity among men in Scotland rose from 19% to 22%
and from 21% to 24% in women, according to the survey
of the five-year period to 2003. Obesity among boys
went up 4%, but dropped slightly in girls. Changes are
required in a number of areas to tackle the problem
and make the healthy choice the easy choice for fighting
obesity.
