Welcome to the Guiltless Gourmet, a new health food
store in Halfmoon, which carries a variety of items
for people on different diet programs. Owner Carol Caden
explained how her products can meet her customers' nutritional
needs.
Caden said, "It's really a diet-specialty store.
Everything is either fat-free, sugar-free, wheat- and
gluten-free. I have points on everything."
And those points refer to a numerical value associated
with Weight Watchers, so customers who take part in
this particular program can purchase items -- ranging
from cookies, to chili, to pizza rolls -- and still
maintain their diet. Another condition closely related
to proper nutrition is something known as celiac disease.
Caden said, "People with celiac disease cannot
have wheat and gluten, and I'm trying to have a supply
of food for them. Also, it's been proven that autistic
children, if you remove the wheat and gluten from their
diets, their behavior is different, that they're easier
to deal with."
There's also people who are just looking to eat healthier.
And nowadays many different food manufactures have worked
harder to keeps these specialty foods tasty. And that's
something to remember, not only because the winter season
tends to brings out poor eating habits, but this weekend
is a traditional food-related event -- Super Bowl Sunday.
But again, it doesn't have to be unhealthy.
Caden said, "You can be on a diet and still enjoy
the food and still have it. It's like you can have your
cake and eat it too."
And you can eat healthy as well -- not just for the
Super Bowl, but for any day thereafter.
