Weight Loss Equation
July 07, 2005
Unfortunately, there are no magic potions or pills
to save you from your dieting dilemma. Instead, the
secret to permanent weight loss is having realistic
goals and making small changes in your lifestyle, even
when faced with the temptation of dining out.
According to the National Institutes of Health, there
are a number of things you can do to lose
weight and keep it off:
Eat less calories.
Exercise
more.
Develop a support system.
Keep track of how you're doing.
That should help you lose it, if you don't want to
find the weight back on again, experts say, focus on
the small steps.
Dr. Rosa Lundin, Sioux Valley Weight Management says,
"What you find out is that when you make little
changes here and little changes here, they all end up
adding up to a big significant change over time."
If you're hoping for a big significant weight loss
in a short amount of time, you should re-think that,
too. The N-I-H recommends losing 10 percent of your
body weight in six months.
That means if you weigh 150 pounds now, your goal should
be to lose 15 pounds over the next six months. That's
about one pound every two weeks.
