Business Dynamics
of Obesity
May 09, 2005
An alarming 65 percent of adult American population
has been grappling with the concerns of growing waistlines,
according to a report by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
Identifying such a high rate of growth as the target
audiences, businesses have witnessed a growth rate similar
to this prevailing epidemic.
For example, Big John Toilet Seat, based in Sherman
Oaks, sells a toilet seat that is nearly the size of
a double one and can sustain up to 1200 pounds.
Amplestuff, a small mail-order-only company based in
upstate New York, has been designing specialty products
for big customers since 1988.
But while these businesses recognize that not all Americans
come in one shape or size, reports from CDC encourage
the weight-loss industry particularly for Bariatric
surgery.
Bariatrics has been accepted as a feasible and workable
solution by many. However, certain Weight Management
Programs have also come up for this issue with the goal
to help the affected understand obesity, its risks along
with good nutrition and weight loss.
The alternatives are being continuously developed to
cater to this overgrown community, drastically changing
their lives and helping them.
