Vital for Health

According to British Heart Foundation figures, Coronary
heart disease claims the lives of 7 out of every 50
women and 23 out of every 100 men in the UK, making
it the most common cause of premature death.
However, a diet low in fat and cholesterol and rich
in fruits and vegetables containing dietary fiber and
Vitamin C may reduce the risk of heart disease and some
types of cancer.
The researchers also recommend regular exercise and
a diet complete with whole foods such as whole grains,
vegetables and fruits including 100% orange juice.
The Cleveland Clinic recently found that drinking two
glasses of orange juice daily has a beneficial effect
on blood pressure. The nutrients found in 100 per cent
orange juice that may help reduce the risk of heart
disease are:
1. Vitamin C: A Powerful Antioxidant that neutralizes
free radicals and helps fight cell and tissue damage
that could lead to heart disease.
2. Potassium: Plays an essential role in muscle fiber
sustenance and reduce the risk of high blood pressure
and stroke.
3. Folate: Found in citrus fruit many green vegetables,
it reduces levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that
damages lining of blood vessels.
According to a joint study by the USDA and KGK Synergize
published in the Journal of Agriculture and Food Chemistry,
compounds found in the peels of oranges and tangerines
have the potential to lower cholesterol. Grapefruit
possess unique chemical properties that reduce insulin
levels, which promote weight loss.
A strong emphasis is, thus, being given on including
fruits, fibers and juices in the diet with a strict
adherence. They lower the risk of heart disease and
aid in digestion and food elimination. A typical serving
includes higher calories than a serving of whole fruit.
