Painless Treatment Promises Results Without A Knife
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Do you have dimples of fat that won't seem to go away? It's called cellulite -- and it was tough to get rid of until now.
A new treatment called Vela-Smooth is now being touted by many physicians as the best way to get rid of cellulite without surgery.
Eyewitness News 5's Marianne Silber recently visited Dr. Victoria Johnson's clinic to see how the cutting-edge laser treatment works. Johnson said the device is a hand held unit that contains a series of rollers, which deliver laser beams that burn away fat.
"The skin will actually come between these rollers, and will have radio frequency and laser deliver it," Johnson said.
Johnson said she has been administering the treatment to women of every shape and size.
"Thin women have it," Johnson said. "Diet and excercise is always a gold standard for everybody, but it's not going to stop you from getting cellulite."
Patients such as Jennifer Garey visit Johnson, who gives them an evaluation and comes up with a plan of attack. Garey told the doctor that she wanted a change -- smoother skin on her thighs, back and stomach, minus the cellulite. She chose Vela-Smooth as an alternative to going under the knife.
"Well, I've got nothing to lose ... you're either going to be the same or better," Garey said. "I would never have plastic surgery, never had lipo ... I'm kind of a 'fraidy cat when it comes to being cut on in any form or manner."
Usually, the Vela-Smooth program involves a few treatments up front, then maintenance treatments every few months after that.
Although it sounds simple, some patients are skeptical about the amount of pain the procedure might cause. But Garey said the truth about the treatment is quite the opposite.
"(It's) like a massage ... not even really a deep massage ... kind of middle of the road," she said.
Vela-Smooth treatments cost anywhere from $150 to $175 per treatment. For more information on Vela-Smooth and how it works, go to the home page of ChannelOklahoma.com and check the "As Seen On 5" section for a link.
