Early Diagnosis can Help in Fighting
Obesity
November 04, 2005
Early diagnosis of obesity in a child can be extremely
beneficial for his health. Childhood obesity has tripled
since 1960. It is often related to two things = the
genes and the environment. When parents don't recognize
their child is overweight, doctors need to step in to
provide their help to combat this dreaded disease.
Controlling obesity is important because it may lead
to other serious medical conditions such as type 2 diabetes,
metabolic syndrome and heart disease. It can lead to
serious health complications.
Measuring body mass index of a child is very important
for identifying if the child is overweight. An overweight
child should be encouraged to perform exercises like
running, swimming, riding and other outdoor activities
to control their weight.
