DOH advises public to be mindful of fake drugs
September 15, 2004
The Taipei's Department of Health has called on citizens to help "crack down" on illicit counterfeit drugs.
In a statement issued yesterday morning, health department officials listed several common drugs for which shoppers should be careful of counterfeits. They included popular drugs such as Viagra, Centrum, Rogaine, Reductl and Xenical.
Officials asked people to be aware of fake drugs and seize any they may come across. They explained how to identify such counterfeits by noting that they do not usually have Chinese labels and the printing is typically coarse. They are also likely to be missing the department's approval code.
Taipei health officer Chiang Yu-mei, explained that, when buying drugs, people should be aware of the packaging and be careful of imitation labels. Under the instructions, he said, there should be a section with the product name and a product number with four digits. Citizens concerned that they may possess counterfeit drugs could call the department's report line at (02) 2728-7092.
